Our environment is one that we struggle to maintain because of the excessive use and disposal of plastic. Plastic is used for a majority of packaging for the food industry. It is used for cups, utensils such as straws, and containers. In order to save our planet, we must use new, more sustainable solutions.
A very popular industry is boba milktea. Milktea is very delicious, but it does require us to use a lot of plastic such as straws and plastic cups in order to get the boba or various other toppings at the bottom. The boba basket is a sustainable design solution that holds the toppings at the top instead of the bottom, which eliminates the use for a straw.
The vision for this product was to lessen the use of plastic by coming up with this sustainable solution.
This design allows the user to simply tilt the cup and then the toppings and drink will come out. The drink is kept warm or cold using a stainless steel tumbler as opposed to a single use plastic one.
Features
Sustainable
Without the need for a straw, this cup can be reused reducing a significant amount of plastic and other resources that is used to produce straws. There is a mouth piece big enough to be able to get the toppings from the drink when the cup is tilted.
Portable
This cup prevents spills while keeping your drink hot or cold by using a strong seal. It is also a good size so that you can fit it in your car or bag without worrying about causing a mess.
Easy to Clean
The boba basket slides in and out of the lid. This simple assembly allows for easy cleaning.
Prototype
I used Autodesk Sketchbook to ideate and render, then all the components were constructed in Solidworks and 3D printed using PETG filament.
